At A Glance: CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8060A8

PCBA’s Score

With a price tag of approximately $750 at the time of writing, the GXiVR8060A8 Gamer Xtreme desktop PC from CyberpowerPC is an excellent choice for gamers seeking to get the most bang for their money.

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR Gaming PC, Intel Core i5-9400F 2.9GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB, 8GB DDR4, 240GB SSD, 1TB HDD, WiFi Ready & Win 10 Home (GXiVR8060A8, Black)

a powerful GTX 1660 graphics card with 6GB of RAM Intel’s 6-core CPU is the most recent version. Great-looking case that is VR-ready. During prolonged gaming sessions, it may get heated. There is no optical drive. A lower-quality power supply is a possibility.

On almost all recent game titles, the GXiVR8060A8 should provide smooth, stutter-free gaming at Full HD resolutions, even with the maximum quality settings. There are a few small compromises to be mindful of, such as reduced airflow through the casing and unidentified branding on components, but generally, this PC should provide excellent gaming performance for years to come.

Introduction

The GXiVR8060A8 is a prebuilt gaming desktop computer that includes a keyboard, mouse, wifi, and Windows 10 Home as standard. CyberpowerPC has been upgrading its GXiVR8060 series on a regular basis, and this newest version features Nvidia’s latest mid-level graphics cards, a decent-sized SSD, and an Intel 9th generation CPU.

Table of Contents (Click to View Contents) Table of Contents (Click to Hide)

Pros

  • Nvidia’s new mid-range series offers powerful graphics — 6GB GeForce GTX 1660
  • Keyboard, mouse, wireless AC connection, and Windows 10 are all included.
  • There are four RGB LED case fans.
  • Future upgrade possibilities
  • 1 year warranty and free technical assistance for the rest of your life

Cons

  • Overclocking is not possible.
  • Mouse and keyboard of poor quality
  • Unknown power supply brand (may be low quality)
  • Depending on availability, component brands may vary.
  • RAM is insufficient (but can be upgraded easily)

The GXiVR8060 series PCs from CyberPowerPC are designed with gamers in mind. They’ve made a number of great decisions in order to maximize the cost-to-performance ratio for video games. The graphics card and CPU account for a large portion of the cost of putting one of them together, while the motherboard, power supply, and RAM account for a smaller portion.

While this PC is designed for gamers, it is also capable of handling other activities such as online surfing, Microsoft Office, and video streaming.

There are less costly PCs available that will work just as well if you don’t intend on playing games and will just use the PC for simple activities like web surfing and streaming movies.

Power users who intend to do a lot of video editing, writing code, or other CPU-intensive activities should look for a PC with a hyper-threading processor, such as an i7. Furthermore, these kinds of heavy users would benefit from additional RAM, which may be readily expanded.

Gamers who want to play serious games at 4k resolutions will have restricted performance and will have to spend a lot of time tinkering with settings to make games playable. 6GB of video RAM is definitely the bare least for 4K gaming, with 8GB or 12GB being much more realistic. Furthermore, although the 1660 is a fantastic mid-range card, it will struggle to handle the extra workload of rendering 4K. Older games may be playable at 4K, but newer games will be considerably more demanding.

Hardware

CyberPowerPC has done an excellent job optimizing the hardware for gaming in this price range, as previously stated.

Summary of Hardware
GFX GTX 1660 6GB
CPU Intel i5-9400F processor
RAM DDR4 2400MHz 8GB
Storage 1TB HDD | 240GB SSD
MBU B360 Series Intel
PSU Unidentified (reported as 800W)

a computer processor (CPU)

The GXiVR8060A8 has an Intel i5-9400F CPU from the 9th generation. This is a 6-core, 2.9GHz (4.1GHz boost) CPU that was launched in the first quarter of 2019. Intel’s “F” series CPUs lack a built-in graphics processor, necessitating the usage of an external graphics card. The Nvidia GTX 1660 graphics card, which we shall cover below, is included in this PC from CyperPowerPC.

This i5-9400F is an excellent CPU for a mid-range gaming PC, in our opinion. It has adequate processing power for gaming and may be able to handle updated graphics cards in the future if you so want.

Graphics

A gaming PC’s graphics card is the most essential component, and the Nvidia GTX 1660 6GB is an excellent choice for this price range. In comparison to the GTX 1060 3GB utilized in earlier versions of this PC, the updated card’s 6GB of video memory enables for bigger graphics textures to be loaded, allowing for better resolution and quality settings in games.

Popular games such as Apex Legends, Fortnight, and Battlefield V are benchmarking at approximately 80 – 90 average FPS at 1080p or 65 – 75 average FPS at 1440p, according to GTX 1660 users.

More gaming benchmarks utilizing the same CPU and graphics card may be found at the website listed below.

https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660/intel-core-i5-9400f-2-90ghz/

Unfortunately, the GTX1660 6GB falls just short of becoming a 4K gaming recommendation. Some games, particularly older ones, may allow you to play at 4k by tweaking the graphics settings, but if you want a decent gaming experience at higher graphical settings, you’ll need a higher-end graphics card. The good news is that if you decide to change the graphics card later, this build’s CPU is compatible with some of the higher-end graphics cards.

Board of directors (MBU)

The GXiVR8060A8 is described as having an Intel B360 chipset, and Cyberpower verified that these PCs come with a B360M chipset motherboard to match (with CyberpowerPC’s Amazon offers, exact hardware components brands/models may change based on the availability of parts at the time it is manufactured).

You may be able to get an idea of what to anticipate from a matching motherboard based on the characteristics of the B360 chipset. This chipset is a step up from the H310 set and has some additional capabilities; however, if you want to overclock later, a B360 compliant motherboard may not be able to handle it since the B360 chipset features do not include overclocking.

Unless you intend on exploring more sophisticated upgrades like overclocking in the future, the B360 should serve for most individuals purchasing a prebuilt gaming PC in this price range. The B360 may allow for intermediate upgrades such as future RAM upgrades, depending on the motherboard type and RAM configuration you purchase (see the next section on RAM). The amount of RAM slots available on various brand B360M motherboards may vary across manufacturers/models. Typically, there are two or four RAM slots.

If you want to know all the information about the particular motherboard before buying this PC, we suggest contacting CyberpowerPC’s tech staff to check the specifications at the moment.

recollection (RAM)

The GXiVR8060A8 has 8GB of DDR4 RAM running at 2400MHz. Customers’ reports generally indicate that this arrives in a 2 x 4GB version with two more slots on the motherboard. As stated above in the Motherboard section, most pre-built systems in this range do not specify which model or brand is used, so you might end up with a B360M motherboard with just two RAM slots, both of which could be filled by a 2 x 4GB RAM configuration. In this scenario, you won’t be able to simply increase your current RAM without fully replacing both sticks.

It’s also conceivable that you received a 1 x 8GB RAM configuration if you bought a B360M motherboard with just two accessible RAM slots. In this scenario, a second 8GB stick may simply be purchased and installed in the spare RAM slot.

While 8GB should enough for most gaming and desktop computer activities, it is a bare minimum by today’s standards, limiting the amount of multitasking you can do. Fortunately, due to the two open slots on the motherboard that most customers have reported, upgrading to 16GB would be a breeze. Of course, if you want to go even higher, you may replace the current memory sticks.

Storage

With two storage drives in this design, CyberpowerPC has gone for the best of both worlds – a conventional hard disk drive (HDD) for bulk storage capacity and a supplemental solid state drive (SSD) for speed.

SSDs are much quicker than HDDs, and you will notice the difference while loading and accessing data on the SSD. This setup has a 240GB SSD, which is a good amount of storage.

The operating system, as well as your most frequently used files, should be installed/located on the faster SSD to achieve the greatest performance from a dual drive configuration like this. Use the slower 1TB HDD for media storage (videos, pictures, files, etc.) where access rates aren’t as critical, and reserve your SSD space for game installs and other purposes.

There is no brand name for the HDD or SSD, and they will most likely change depending on availability of components.

Electricity (PSU)

Specifics on the power source are not provided, as is typical with CyberpowerPC and many other prebuilt PC offers. We’ve heard some prior claims of an 800W PSU in this device from other purchasers.

One thing to keep in mind when purchasing a prebuilt PC is that the manufacturer may choose for a less expensive power supply unit. One disadvantage of cheaper power supply units is that they may be less dependable, and if they fail, they may cause harm to other hardware in your computer. We suggest that you conduct your own research on the brand of power supply that came with your computer, and if you discover anything worrisome, you should replace it with a higher-quality one with a better reputation.

Other Additions

WIFI and Internet Access According to the product Q&As, the system specifications include an 802.11AC WiFi Adapter that can be utilized with a 5GHz WiFi connection. This seems to have been a USB plug-in option in the past, but it has now been changed to an in-built card that plugs into the motherboard. Remember that components may vary based on availability, so if the kind of adapter is important to you, ask CyberpowerPC for additional information.

On the motherboard, there is an RJ-45 10/100/1000 gigabit ethernet (LAN) connection.

This device has a ton of USB connections, including 6 USB 3.1 and 2 USB 2.0 (all of which, along with the graphics capabilities, means it’s VR ready!).

Drive Optical The GXiVR8060A8 lacks an optical drive, which is becoming more common in prebuilt gaming PC models. It’s worth mentioning that the front panel of this PC’s chassis cannot accommodate an internal optical drive, so if you need one, you’ll have to look into portable USB optical drive alternatives like these.

8X DVD write speed, ASUS ZenDrive U7M provides a complete, easy-to-use backup solution. ASUS ZenDrive U7M has an ultra-slim, 13mm form factor, making it the perfect companion to thin and light laptops. M-disc is designed to protect your memories from...

.

System of Operation The GXiVR8060A8 comes with a fully licensed, authentic copy of Windows 10 Home edition (64-bit) preloaded.

Other This PC is ready for Virtual Reality (VR) – it’s right there in the name! This simply means that the graphics card is strong enough to handle VR apps, and that there are enough USB ports to connect VR headsets and controllers – in other words, you should be able to play whatever VR games you choose.

Case The GXiVR8060A8 has the same impressive-looking chassis as previous versions, with a transparent side panel that allows you to see inside the case and four RGB LED case fans on the front and back panels.

According to several reviewers, despite having a lot of fans, the case design doesn’t appear to offer the greatest ventilation – and the hardware inside may become hot if you’re operating it at high loads (think intense gaming). If you’re going to be performing a lot of demanding activities that may create heat inside the case, we suggest utilizing hardware monitoring software to keep an eye on interior temperatures.

The front panel of the case may be removed to enhance ventilation, but be careful that dust might be sucked inside, making the internals dirtier faster.

The RGB LED color-changing fans come with a remote control for simple customization according to your mood.

7.9′′ x 17.9′′ x 18.5′′ is the size of the case (W x D x H).

Peripherals/Accessories A wired USB keyboard and a 7-color RGB gaming mouse with 7 buttons that may be configured as gaming hotkeys/macros are included with the CyberpowerPC.

Support/Warranties CyberpowerPC’s normal 1 year parts and labor guarantee is included, as well as free lifetime technical support.

Let’s look at the performance of the GXiVR8060A8 now that we’ve covered the hardware.

Usage

Following in the footsteps of earlier versions of this gaming PC, this Gamer Xtreme VR setup delivers incredible performance for the money. The i5-9400F has the processing power to handle more demanding games, while the GTX 1660 is a strong and relatively new-release (Q1 2019) graphics card with great performance (at the time of review).

The 240GB SSD hard drive sweetens the deal and ensures you’ll have lightning-fast boot times. The 8GB of RAM and 1TB hard drive are standard offerings for gaming PCs these days (and are some of the easiest items of hardware to upgrade), but the 240GB SSD hard drive sweetens the deal and ensures you’ll have lightning-fast boot times.

The GXiVR8060A8 is designed to handle intense gaming, so daily tasks are a breeze for it.

Where it shines:
  • Gaming – all new and old games, even at high resolutions (FHD/1080p and QHD/1440p) and on high settings.
  • Web surfing in general
  • Applications for the home and office (Microsoft Office, PDF readers, Accounting tools etc)
  • Organizing/editing pictures, watching videos
  • Streaming services (YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, Stan, and Amazon Prime, among others)
  • In general, multitasking
It may also do the following:
  • Gaming and virtual reality applications (of course)
  • Touch-ups and video editing
  • Applications that need a lot of graphics and processing power (modelling, video conversions etc)
You may have trouble with:
  • At higher resolutions, such as 4K, very high quality/texture gameplay is possible (While this GXiVR8060A8 could handle it, you may need to sacrifice some quality settings in order to get a smoother gaming experience)

What Games Does It Support?

This gaming PC should be able to handle just much any game you throw at it thanks to the GTX 1660’s outstanding performance. Expect to be able to play at high or extremely high settings and still have good framerates.

Because of the 6GB of graphics card RAM, more textures and information can be saved, resulting in a better FPS.

It’s also a simple issue of plug-and-play if you want to go into virtual reality. Because this PC has the necessary power to handle these more demanding programs, you should have a wonderful time.

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR Gaming PC, Intel Core i5-9400F 2.9GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB, 8GB DDR4, 240GB SSD, 1TB HDD, WiFi Ready & Win 10 Home (GXiVR8060A8, Black)

We appreciate that the GXiVR8060A8 is ready to use right out of the box, but it can also be updated in the future, just like other desktops. It’s a fantastic product right out of the box, but if you’re interested in improving it in the short or long term, here are a few suggestions.

Upgrades that are recommended (short-term/immediate)

As previously stated, prebuilt PCs are infamous for using lower-quality power supply as a cost-cutting tactic for the makers, thus one of our first suggestions for upgrading is to verify the PSU your machine came with and conduct your own research into the brand or model number. If it seems to be a dud or there are numerous complaints of failure, you should replace it with a more reputable unit for the sake of the rest of your gear.

  • Upgrade/Replacement of Power Supply In the case of a power supply failure, low-quality power supplies may possibly reduce the life of other hardware components or even harm them catastrophically. We suggest searching for a company that stands behind their product with a multi-year guarantee for piece of mind — we like this EVGA 500W supply that comes with a multi-year warranty.
  • Upgraded memory (RAM) Adding additional RAM is a very simple update that you can do yourself, but you’ll only notice a significant improvement if this is a present system bottleneck. Stuttering and unresponsive or sluggish programs are signs of RAM bottlenecking. You may use the built-in Windows task manager to check your current RAM consumption, or you can utilize a benchmarking program. The GXiVR8060A8 comes standard with 8GB of RAM, however it can easily be upgraded to 16GB or more.

Other Upgrade Factors to Consider

It’s usually a good idea to think about how long you’ll be using a computer before making a purchase. If you plan on keeping it for a long time, it’s worth considering improvements to maintain it in top shape. The good news is that the GXiVR8060A8 utilizes a recent-release CPU and graphics card, so you can anticipate them to function well for you for at least another 5 years. After that time, it’s likely that it’ll struggle to keep up with newly released games, which are becoming more demanding, and if that’s the case, you should consider upgrading the CPU or graphics card, depending on what’s available at the time.

You may also wish to consider the following upgrades:

Cooling or a Case Improvement The case design of the GXiVR8060A8 isn’t the greatest, according to some customers, which may result in a little of heat within the case when components are performing at their optimum. If this seems to be affecting you (you can check internal hardware temperatures using monitoring software like HW monitor), you may want to consider a PC case upgrade, which entails removing all of your gear from the old case and replacing it with new hardware. People also use this for aesthetic reasons – since the case is one of the first things you see, it’s a simple method to totally remodel your PC if you’re looking for a change!

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme VR Gaming PC, Intel Core i5-9400F 2.9GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB, 8GB DDR4, 240GB SSD, 1TB HDD, WiFi Ready & Win 10 Home (GXiVR8060A8, Black)

As we write this review, the GXiVR8060A8 is available for little under $750, which we believe is excellent value for money. You’d almost have to spend this much simply for the components and operating system software if you built your own computer from start with the comparable parts. The GXiVR8060A8 is an excellent value, and you’re not paying more for the convenience of having it pre-assembled and software pre-installed.

There aren’t many comparable choices in this price bracket that provide such excellent value, but Skytech’s Blaze II, which also includes the GTX 1660 graphics card, is a viable alternative. Other pre-built gaming PCs in this price range don’t appear to be able to match the GXiVR8060A8’s graphics performance. The GTX 1050Ti is a popular option, but according to Passmark video card test results, it only scores about 60% of what the GTX 1660 does. When compared to the GTX 1660, even the GTX 1060 (and the similarly performing Radeon RX 580) falls short. The absence of comparable alternatives only serves to emphasize the GXiVR8060A8’s performance worth.

With the GXiVR8060A8, CyberpowerPC maintains its reputation for excellent performance value for money, and we’re happy to see upgrades to the graphics card and CPU that will guarantee this PC remains relevant for many years to come. This is the prebuilt choice for you if you’re a casual or professional gamer who wants to play at full HD resolutions with the best quality settings without sacrificing framerates. Despite some complaints of inadequate case airflow resulting to increased component heating, smart users can simply monitor this to ensure it doesn’t become a bigger problem, so we’d still suggest this as a good choice for gamers of any skill seeking to buy in this price bracket.
