The Golden State Warriors remain the best team in the league after another dominant performance, but they’re not getting any easier to take down. Meanwhile, we have a new number one contender on our hands as the surging Chicago Bulls are finally starting to put it all together.
The “nba standings” is a list of the NBA teams and their records. The Warriors remain the best team in the league, while the Bulls are serious title contenders.
We’re approaching the midpoint of the season, and the playoff race is shaping up to be another exciting year. Teams are beginning to separate themselves as contenders for the title and playoff qualifiers. Others are beginning to tank their way to the bottom of the rankings, indicating that a firesale might occur in the month leading up to the trade deadline.
The NBA power rankings are used to determine which teams are the greatest and which are the worst. Keep in mind that, despite the fact that the play-in game is not an official playoff game, it adds four additional teams to the postseason picture. It does imply that 10 teams on each sides will play games after the regular season ends, giving a total of 20 teams a chance to compete in the playoffs.
The play-in event will be a close competition, with many of the tail teams in the rankings taking part. For the time being, the Eastern Conference’s Nos. 7-10 seeds are wide open, while the Western Conference’s Nos. 5 through 10 seeds are similarly competitive. As we approach the halfway mark of the season, here are your power rankings.
The Orlando Magic are ranked 30th in the NBA, with a record of 7-31.
After seeing the Magic face the Bulls on the road, you have to admire how head coach Jamahl Mosley manages to get these young players to perform. The Magic traveled on the road to face the greatest team in the Eastern Conference and came close to pulling off an upset. The Magic are currently not a competitive squad, as we all predicted. They have a plethora of youthful talent that are in need of experience.
Franz Wagner has the most points among all rookies. Wendell Carter Jr. has vastly improved his game, which now includes an outside shot. Jalen Suggs has shown potential. Despite the absence of Cole Anthony, the squad is working hard. The Magic have a chance to acquire the first overall selection and bring in Chet Holmgren. Give the Magic some time, and they’ll be able to rebuild properly.
7-28, Detroit Pistons
Cade Cunningham, who is a big fan of Chet Holmgren, would be thrilled to have him join the Pistons. With the Magic, Detroit will be a contender for the lottery this year. Cunningham and Holmgren developing as a powerful tandem in Detroit would provide the squad with a clear route to the future.
For the time being, the team is just terrible. The team’s ability to secure a large package before the deadline was hampered by Jerami Grant’s injury. There are some concerns about Killian Hayes’ progress. With its prospects failing, Detroit’s future is not as obvious as Orlando’s. Cunningham, as a result, has a chance to earn Rookie of the Year.
The Houston Rockets are ranked 28th in the NBA, with a record of 10-28.
The Rockets have a 7-10 record at home this season, but are 3-18 on the road. They’ve dropped their last eight games and look to be on the verge of a second huge losing run. Kevin Porter Jr. and Christian Wood, who are not behaving like professionals, are also causing problems for the club.
When you win, everyone has a good time. It’s a disaster when you lose. On the floor and in the locker room, the Rockets are clearly a losing team. It wouldn’t surprise us if we started hearing reports about head coach Stephen Silas altering his mind.
The Pelicans of New Orleans are ranked 27th in the NBA, with a record of 13-25.
The Pelicans have been performing well recently under head coach Willie Green. New Orleans has gone 5-5 in their previous ten games and hasn’t given up hope of making the play-in game. If the Pelicans reach the play-in game as the No. 10 seed, it will be a tribute to their coaching, since not having Zion Williamson play even once this season is a significant blow.
Williamson’s development is surrounded by legitimate concerns. When he’s well, he’s an All-Star, but he can’t manage to remain healthy. He is crucial to the team’s ability to maintain a.500 or better record. Williamson and Brandon Ingram were meant to be an All-Star tandem. If the team continues to lose, the franchise’s future is in jeopardy.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are ranked 26th in the NBA, with a record of 13-23.
Nobody was more ecstatic than GM Sam Presti as he watched Josh Giddey become the league’s youngest player to ever achieve a triple-double. Giddey isn’t a very good offensive player in general, but he can do almost everything, which is amazing for a guy who is just 19 years old.
We’ll have to wait another two years before we start talking about the Thunder like we did during the Kevin Durant/Russell Westbrook era. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, on the other hand, continues to amaze, while Giddey has shown to be the next important fundamental component going forward.
The Indiana Pacers are ranked 25th in the NBA, with a record of 14-24.
It’s time to deconstruct it. The Pacers reasoned that acquiring no players before the deadline wouldn’t matter if they hired Rick Carlisle, a seasoned coach. This squad, on the other hand, is not capable of competing for anything. All of Malcolm Brogdon, Caris LeVert, Domantas Sabonis, and Myles Turner should be available for trade, and the organization should be taking calls for everyone on the roster.
The only player that should be considered untouchable is youngster Chris Duarte, who is vying for a spot on the All-Rookie First Team. He should be the only member of the team’s future youthful core. Outside of him, there are first-round draft selections that may be acquired if they begin making moves immediately.
14-22 Portland Trail Blazers
The Trail Blazers need to examine themselves in the mirror when it comes to identity concerns. The club is 7-18 in the Western Conference. When they remain in Portland, the squad is quite competitive, going 12-9, but everything goes apart when they go on the road, where they go 2-13.
Damian Lillard has had a career-worst season, while CJ McCollum has been dealing with a lung condition. What extra would it get you if both players were healthy? The squad would likely earn a No. 7 seed and would be eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Ben Simmons might end up with one of these guys. It’s past time to take action.
14-22, San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs are the Western Conference’s No. 11 seed. What player on this squad makes you turn your head apart from Dejounte Murray, who is shooting the ball at a high rate? That is why Gregg Popovich is still a master of his craft. Despite this, the Spurs are first in the league in assists per game and seventh in points per game.
Popovich needs 12 victories to pass Don Nelson as the NBA’s all-time winningest coach. You’d have to believe he’s finished once he reaches that point. Despite hanging around the play-in slot in the standings, this Spurs squad lacks the ability to make a long run. To compete, the squad need more, which may take some time. It makes you question how much time the 73-year-old has left in front of him.
Sacramento Kings are ranked 22nd in the NBA, with a record of 16-23.
When the Kings were 6-11, they fired Luke Walton. The club has been hovering around.500 since Alvin Gentry took coach, with a 10-12 record. This does not necessarily imply victory, but it does demonstrate that the team is reacting to the change. The Kings are similar to the Pacers in that they are still searching for their identity.
De’Aaron Fox is shooting 24% from three-point range this season, and his assist total is down two from last year. For the first time since 2006, the squad may compete in the play-in competition with the hopes of making the playoffs. However, finding a trade partner for Harrison Barnes and Buddy Hield would be a better option.
16-20 Atlanta Hawks, 21.
We weren’t expecting such a drop-off after reaching the Conference Finals. Trae Young is playing like an All-NBA First Teamer right now and is second in scoring, but the squad has struggled with inconsistency all season, with Bogdan Bogdanovic and De’Andre Hunter both missing substantial time. The Hawks have reason to be optimistic since they were underperforming last season until going on a tear at the conclusion of the season.
Young, who is second in scoring and third in assists, will be key if the Hawks are to turn things around. We should expect to hear his name raised more in the MVP race if the club can turn things around.
17-20 Minnesota Timberwolves
The team has suffered as a result of losing D’Angelo Russell for an extended period of time. Due to health and safety concerns, Russell hasn’t played since December 23. Russell had a double-double of 18.7 points and 6.7 assists per game. Outside of Russell, Minnesota is in the mix for a play-in tournament berth. The club appeared to be happy with making the playoffs for the second time since 2004.
Minnesota’s franchise has to be steered in the right path. Going all-in may be a risky decision, but it will pay off in the long run for the business. This year, Karl-Anthony Towns has continued to play like an All-Star, while Anthony Edwards has improved. If the club makes the playoffs, they may be able to start selling season tickets.
The New York Knicks are 19th in the NBA, with a record of 18-20.
Even if you aren’t a fan of the club, the Knicks can be irritating to watch. Last year, the club was a top defensive squad, but this year they are below the top five. After receiving a contract extension, Julius Randle regressed. Kemba Walker’s deal backfired at first, but then it didn’t. He’s now the subject of trade rumors. The Knicks seem to be the same squad they were two years ago, when Thibodeau took control.
We should be patient with Thibodeau since he did win Coach of the Year last season. There’s still time to turn things around, but there have been concerns about the money owing to Evan Fournier, and now is the time to address them since paying $18 million per year to a guy who averages 13.1 points per game seems to be a horrible idea.
17-17, Toronto Raptors
The Raptors are playing better now that Pascal Siakam has found his stride. Siakam is averaging 19.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 20 games. The squad has a home record of 10-10 and a road record of 7-7. They’re catching up to the rest of the Eastern Conference. The team, on the other hand, will have to show more.
What sticks out about Siakam is that he has now scored 18 points or more in five consecutive games. That includes a recent 25-point, 19-rebound performance against the Clippers. Keep a watch on Fred VanVleet, who leads the league in three-point field goals made per game (3.5). They can compete with anybody as long as they play defense. The club is currently ranked among the top ten defensive teams in the country.
The Boston Celtics are ranked 17th in the NBA, with a record of 18
The Celtics are in a downward spiral right now. Jayson Tatum is averaging 25.6 points and 8.6 rebounds per game, but his three-point shooting percentage is at 32.9 percent, down six percentage points from last season. Jaylen Brown is also shooting less effectively than last year and has only played in 23 games due to injury.
There’s been a feeling that not everyone is on the same page since Marcus Smart publicly called out both Tatum and Brown. You may put it on Ime Udoka, the first-year head coach, but this feeling has been around since last year. Is it possible for Tatum and Brown to lead a team together? We’ll find out soon enough.
The Los Angeles Clippers are ranked 16th in the NBA, with a record of 19-19
The Clippers are playing as well as the Lakers, despite the fact that Kawhi Leonard and Paul George haven’t been on the court in weeks. George has carried the team the whole year while Leonard has been away. Now, Eric Bledsoe has regained his offensive stride, scoring 27 points against the Nets on New Year’s Day.
Regrettably, ordinary teams are unable to maintain consistency. What’s the next game from Bledsoe? In 22 minutes, I scored one point. The squad will focus on holding down the fort until George returns. Hopefully, when Leonard returns, as well.
The Charlotte Hornets are ranked 15th in the NBA, with a record of 19-19
The Hornets average 114.9 points per game, which is good for second in the league. Offensively, LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier, Gordon Hayward, and Miles Bridges, a possible Most Improved Player of the Year contender, form a formidable unit. To clean up the defense, the club now has to make a trade for a guy like Myles Turner.
The club has the worst points per game allowed defense in the league, allowing 116.7 points per game. You’d get 16 if you averaged two and thirty, which is nearly where the Hornets stand in our rankings. The squad still has a chance to reach the playoffs, but they must improve their defense in the coming months.
Los Angeles Lakers (14), 20-19
The Lakers were not anticipating a middle-of-the-pack ranking when they signed Russell Westbrook. That strategy, however, has backfired. Westbrook’s stats are also not in his favor. On offense, Westbrook is holding the ball at the lowest rate since 2009-2010. His 28.1 percent use rate would be the first time in almost a decade that he hasn’t hit 30 percent or above. The issue is that he has a 20.3 percent turnover rate, which is a career high.
Westbrook presently has the most turnovers in the NBA. There were concerns about Westbrook’s and LeBron James’ compatibility. You can’t feel sorry for anybody since this was a choice that LeBron supported. Either the Lakers will figure out a way to make this work, or they will be in severe danger of squandering LeBron’s classic season.
The Washington Wizards are ranked 13th in the NBA, with a record of 19
Since opening the season 10-3, the Wizards have cooled down. That’s what losing 15 of your next 24 games will do to you. There was cause for hope when the squad started out so well, but on paper, the team didn’t need to be playing so well. Having saying that, the squad is competitive.
Kyle Kuzma is enjoying a career year, and Montrezl Harrell is a contender for Sixth Man of the Year. Bradley Beal is shooting and scoring less, but that’s because he’s surrounded by seasoned NBA veterans. In any case, Beal is due for a contract extension this year and might be a free agent. To prevent him from departing, the Wizards must win more games.
Dallas Mavericks, 12th, 19-18
Kristaps Porzingis has discovered a new technique to score 20.6 points every night. Porzingis earned the moniker “unicorn” when playing in New York because he was a seven-footer who could shoot from three-point range. That’s no longer an option since his 28.2 percent three-point shooting is the lowest of his career.
He is averaging over 20 points per game, 8.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 blocks a game. Since joining the Mavericks, his defensive efforts seem to be at their finest. Luka Doncic’s sole concern now is staying healthy, since he has only appeared in 23 games this season.
The Denver Nuggets are ranked 11th in the NBA, with a record of 18-17.
Even without Jamal Murray or Michael Porter Jr., the Nuggets remain a winning team. That brings us back to the subject of Nikola Jokic’s importance. Because of the current record, the incumbent MVP isn’t in the MVP debate this year, but he’s still showing up on the stat sheets.
Jokic is second in rebounding, third in double-doubles, and third in triple-doubles in the league. He’s back in first place in the league in terms of player efficiency rating. Due to the injuries to Murray and MPJ, Denver fans may have to wait another year, but it would be a shame if the Nuggets squander another year of Jokic’s peak.
The Philadelphia 76ers are ranked 10th in the NBA, with a record of 20-16
The 76ers have turned things around after starting the season with the East’s 12th best record. Joel Embiid is once again playing like an MVP contender. Embiid is among the top scorers in the fourth quarter. In six of his previous seven games, he has scored at least 30 points. It’s now up to the team to put an end to the Ben Simmons saga.
At this point, everything that occurs with Simmons is a plus. Without him, the squad has finally found its stride, thus dealing him, or even getting him back, would help the team climb even higher in the standings.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are ranked ninth in the NBA, with a record of 21-17.
The Cavaliers continue to be the league’s best defensive club, finishing second in points allowed per game. Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley form a formidable defensive frontcourt. What makes this season even more remarkable is that it is Kevin Love’s best in two years. Love has scored at least 20 points in each of his previous five games, despite his modest 14.6 points and 7.6 rebounds. Kevin Love’s voice has a vintage vibe to it.
He’s also been getting increased playing time, averaging roughly 30 minutes each game. The addition of Rajon Rondo, a seasoned veteran who thrives with younger and inexperienced guys, was a tremendous coup. Now that Ricky Rubio is out for the season, we should anticipate Rondo to play a significant part.
Miami Heat (#8) 23-15
Tyler Herro seems to be the same guy that led the Heat to the NBA Finals in 2020. Herro has a game average of 20.4 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. His three-point shooting percentage has risen to 38.8%. Unless the Heat keep starting him in games, he’ll be a strong contender for Sixth Man of the Year.
Kyle Lowry has also improved his adaptation to a new position. Lowry can play facilitator now that Herro is scoring more. If the season ended today, his 8.3 assists would be a career best. He must now improve his three-point shooting, which is down 8% from previous season. The Heat are still a title possibility if Jimmy Butler (23 games played) and Bam Adebayo (18 games played) stay healthy.
The Memphis Grizzlies are ranked seventh in the NBA, with a record of 25-14.
Ja Morant is a force to be reckoned with. He proved that the other night when he scored 36 points to lead the Grizzlies to a victory against the Nets. There’s no telling what this franchise can do if Morant continues playing like this. The Grizzlies aren’t very noteworthy either. They have the ninth best point differential in the league. They just discover new methods to win.
Jaren Jackson Jr.’s shooting hasn’t been as good as it has been in the past, but his defense has improved. His 1.9 blocks are a career best, and he also has 16.0 points and 5.3 rebounds on the season. If he can remain fit, the squad will have a cause to compete in the future. When teams play against the Grizzlies, Jackson and Steven Adams have held opponents to the fourth-lowest rebounding total in the NBA.
The Milwaukee Bucks are ranked sixth in the NBA, with a record of 25-14
Remember when the Bucks were eliminated from the postseason picture after only 15 games? Everyone was finally able to rest once the squad was healthy. According to the rankings, Giannis is the NBA’s second-most efficient player. Khris Middleton is having a shooting slump, and the departure of Brook Lopez has harmed the team’s overall depth.
Bobby Portis, on the other hand, is having a season to remember. Portis is averaging 15.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per game while shooting 43.2 percent from three-point range. When his followers couldn’t think of new reasons to adore him, he came up with his own. The Bucks have the fourth-best scoring offense in the NBA thanks to his contributions.
The Brooklyn Nets are ranked fifth in the NBA, with a record of 23-12
They have a good defense for a team that has James Harden, Blake Griffin, Patty Mills, and LaMarcus Aldridge. These guys haven’t allowed their age hinder their defensive performance. The Nets allow 107 points per game, which is in the middle of the pack, but they have the league’s top three-point shooting defense. Opponents shoot 31.5 percent from beyond the arc against the Nets.
In terms of total field-goal percentage, teams shoot 43%, which is second only to the Warriors. It’s hard to believe, but the Nets are having greater trouble on the offensive end of the court. Kevin Durant is seeking a scoring championship and an MVP award, but the Nets aren’t in the top ten in terms of points per game. Harden has had trouble getting to the free throw line, but now that Kyrie Irving is back, he may be able to assist on the evenings he is available.
4. Bulls of Chicago (25-10).
DeMar DeRozan enthralled the world over the weekend as he nailed back-to-back game-winning jumpers. With his performance this season, DeRozan has cemented his place among the top five candidates for MVP. DeRozan is currently sixth in the scoring race after guiding the Bulls to an eight-game winning streak and the Eastern Conference’s top spot.
The Bulls are firing on all cylinders as a unit. Nikola Vucevic seems to be the same All-Star he was in Orlando. Zach LaVine is heading a club that is ranked first in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (38.5 percent ). Alex Caruso has the most thefts in the league. This squad, in full strength, can compete with anybody.
Utah Jazz (27-10).
The Jazz have the league’s greatest scoring offense. The Jazz are putting opponents on notice with 116 points per game. The most unexpected statistic is that the Golden State Warriors, headed by Steph Curry, do not make the most three-point shots in games. With 15.1 points per game, the Jazz are barely ahead of the Warriors.
Donovan Mitchell, Mike Conley Jr., and Bojan Bogdanovic have all had another outstanding season. Jordan Clarkson, the team’s reigning Sixth Man of the Year, has struggled with consistency, but there is still time for him to improve. Rudy Gobert is a strong contender for Defensive Player of the Year, as he leads the league in both rebounding (15.1) and field-goal percentage (.539). (70.6 percent ).
The Phoenix Suns are ranked second in the Western Conference with a record of 29-8
The Suns have the third-best scoring offense while allowing the fifth-most points. Chris Paul leads the league in assists, so seeing whether the 37-year-old can complete the job would be spectacular. For the first time in his career, Devin Booker is shooting over 40% from three-point range, while Mikal Bridges could get more votes in the DPOY voting.
The Suns have more depth at center than any other team in the NBA. You have a borderline All-Star in the lineup in Deandre Ayton. JaVale McGee is averaging 10.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 65.7 percent shooting in 16.3 minutes per game when he comes out. Jalen Smith, who was introduced to the rotation recently, has been putting up double-double statistics.
The Golden State Warriors are ranked first with a score of 29-7.
How do you go up against the league’s top team, which is about to receive a former All-Star back? Klay Thompson is set to play against the Cavaliers on Sunday. Since he hasn’t participated in an NBA game since the 2019 NBA Finals, we have no clue what type of player he will be. That being said, whatever he does is a plus.
Steph Curry is vying for the MVP award with Kevin Durant. Draymond Green is the apparent favorite to win the DPOY award. The Warriors’ defense has been so effective this season that they have held opponents to the lowest points per game average and field-goal shooting percentage (42.6 percent ). If the team wants to trade, they have assets. Everything is falling into place for Golden State at the moment.
Bill Russell Is The Lord Of The Rings Among NBA Players With The Most Championships
Warriors said to be interested in acquiring Christian Wood in exchange for two players and a draft pick.
The Bulls should trade for Harrison Barnes or Jerami Grant, according to a former NBA executive.
