Darkwing Duck, the popular Disney character from DuckTales, is coming back. But not as a hero. The new Darkwing production company has released a teaser poster featuring the anti-hero and his iconic mask on top of rubble and fire with an eye in the sky watching over it all.

Darkwing Duck is coming to the Nickelodeon show “Rescue Rangers” in a poster that features Darkwing and Wile E. Coyote from what looks like an explosion. The show’s Twitter account also teased it would be airing soon, but no other information has been revealed about when or how DarkWing will make his debut.

The “chip and dale rescue rangers” is a poster that was released by toy company Jakks Pacific. The poster has Darkwing Duck on the front of it, but when you turn it around, there is a text saying “Darkwing Duck”.

The Disney+ Day event on Friday unveiled a lot in terms of movies and series, with many of them likely to be on the streaming service in the next year or two. Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers is one of them, a live-action/computer-generated-images hybrid that will continue the plot of the iconic 1990s animation series. If an Easter egg on the film’s freshly released poster is any clue, Chip ‘n Dale may be joined by one of their Disney Afternoons buddies. A script title page in the backdrop of the poster, which you can see below, seems to state “Darkwing Duck Production Draft 2021.”

It’s been 30 years in the making, but the reboot is finally here. #DisneyPlusDay pic.twitter.com/9rh72ppbw4 Chip ‘n Dale: #RescueRangers, an Original Movie, will be streaming Spring 2022 on #DisneyPlus.

While the image might just be an Easter egg, others have theorized that it could indicate a cameo or crossover between the superhero and the Rescue Rangers, or possibly a relaunch of the famous program. Darkwing was originally speculated to be receiving a Disney+ remake in 2020, and he debuted in an episode of the recently rebooted DuckTales.

DuckTales producer Matt Youngberg said of the appearance, “Darkwing was a very crucial character for us to build and employ to enrich the universe of DuckTales.” “And having it happen in the third season felt like the correct choice, given how much the third season is about legacy. It focuses on the Disney Afternoon in general. We’re returning a number of characters from the Disney Afternoon, and since Darkwing Duck has been the Disney Afternoon figure we’ve been planting the most throughout the series, it seemed natural to center this halfway event on him. So, this is right in the midst of Season 3, and you’ve got this season-long storyline with DuckTales going on, and we wanted to make sure that that season-long arc transitioned in some manner for the second half of the season. As a result, we needed to make sure that we were not only serving the story in DuckTales and what we were doing there, but that we were also expanding the Disney Afternooniverse concept that we had with Darkwing Duck and really paying off what we had been setting up for three seasons with Darkwing and giving him his own narrative space to grow as a character.”

Chip and Dale must re-team to rescue a buddy from video piracy in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, which takes place years after the Rescue Rangers TV series ended. Corey Burton will reprise his role as Zipper the house fly in the film, while Seth Rogen will make a surprise appearance.

The Lonely Island, whose past big-screen projects include Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping and Hot Rod, are both in front of and behind the camera for the Chip ‘N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers revival. The film will be directed by Akiva Schaeffer, whose previous credits include Popstar and I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand will write Chip ‘N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers, with Larry Fong from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice acting as cinematographer.
