In case you didn’t know, the Surface Pen has two batteries: one for the pen and one for the buttons, thus if the pen isn’t functioning, your battery is most certainly dead.
Simply change the battery to see if this resolves the issue for you. Many people claimed that the problem was caused by the battery, but that after changing it, the problem was permanently remedied.

4. Start up your Surface device again.
- For 30 seconds, press and hold the Power button on your Surface. Make sure the gadget is switched off entirely.
- For around 15 seconds, press and hold the Volume Up and Power buttons simultaneously. The Surface logo should flash on your screen. This is quite natural.
- Wait around 10 seconds after releasing the buttons. To turn the Surface back on, press and release the power button.
5. Go through the troubleshooting procedure. to see if there are any issues.
- Open the Settings app. When the Settings app opens, head over to the Update & Security section.
- Select Troubleshoot from the left pane. Choose Hardware and Devices from the list and click the Run the troubleshooter to see if there are any issues. button.

Note: If the problem continues, you should run the Bluetooth troubleshooter as well. Keep in mind that troubleshooters are meant to solve a certain set of issues and malfunctions, so they may not be able to solve yours.

- Select Device Manager from the list by pressing Win + X. Simply right-click the Start button to do this.
- Right-click the Intel(R) HD Graphics 520 on the list and choose Disable device from the menu.
- When the confirmation box appears, choose Yes.
- After deactivating the device for a few seconds, right-click it again and choose Enable from the menu.
Keep in mind that you may need to repeat this approach each time the problem arises.
You may want to try disabling and activating the Intel(R) Precise Touch Device, as well as disabling and enabling your Surface Pen.
7. Restart the pen.
