The Dallas Cowboys have a problem. They are in desperate need of a quarterback, and their current answer is Dak Prescott. He has been great for the Cowboys in his rookie season, but he will be entering his second year with a lot of pressure on him to improve.

The dak prescott contract ridiculous is a problem that has been present for a while. It seems like the Dallas Cowboys need to consider a $9 million solution to their developing Dak Prescott problem.

It’s understandable if the Dallas Cowboys hoped for a joyful and healthy homecoming for star quarterback Dak Prescott this summer. The football gods, unfortunately for the Cowboys, were not on their side.

Prescott, a two-time Pro Bowl selection, has been battling with a shoulder issue for the last several weeks. Even as the star quarterback returns to the field, club owner Jerry Jones has to think about an expensive but essential move.

Let’s get things down on paper right now. Dak Prescott isn’t prone to injuries, so the Cowboys shouldn’t be worried about his future just yet.

Prescott, on the other hand, isn’t in the greatest condition of his life right now. On July 28, the sixth-year quarterback left practice with an injured shoulder and was sidelined for almost two weeks. On Monday, Aug. 16, he returned in a restricted capacity.

Despite the fact that Prescott did not participate in either of the Cowboys’ first two preseason games, there was never a guarantee he would. The Cowboys have not ruled out their star quarterback for an Aug. 21 matchup against the Houston Texans as of publishing.

Prescott had just finished his lengthy recovery from a serious ankle ailment when he suffered the shoulder injury. The two-time Pro Bowler continued to work out over the summer and is expected to start against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.

Prescott’s desire to play in Week 1 is undeniable, given his efforts to remain hopeful about starting in the preseason. Certain injuries, particularly those affecting the shoulder, may, nevertheless, persist.

If Prescott suffers a setback, the Cowboys will need to consider bringing in a competent backup quarterback. In terms of experience and potential to play effectively in 2021, Chicago Bears veteran Nick Foles is the finest backup quarterback on the market.

The Bears have yet to sell Foles, owing to either stubbornness or a bare-bones market. For months, NBC Sports columnist Peter King has advocated for the New York Jets to sign Foles and place him behind BYU rookie Zach Wilson. After Carson Wentz, a former Philadelphia Eagles teammate, had foot surgery this summer, Foles was connected to the Indianapolis Colts.

The Cowboys would gain greatly from acquiring Foles if they are serious about staying in the postseason chase all season. Although the veteran quarterback has been inconsistent in recent years, he has shown flashes of being a streaky quarterback — think of a less talented Ryan Fitzpatrick — who might be a perfect match in the Cowboys’ deep system.

Foles will make $9 million in completely guaranteed money over the next two years, according quarterback NJ.com. That may seem like a lot of money for a backup quarterback, but it’s easy to forgive the Cowboys for going above and beyond to guarantee a successful season in autumn.

Foles may be the Cowboys’ best hope for finding a reliable backup quarterback to sit behind Prescott.

Let’s suppose the Cowboys decide they don’t want to bring Foles back to the NFC East or can’t come to an agreement. The Cowboys placed Garrett Gilbert, Cooper Rush, and Ben DiNucci below Prescott on the depth chart at the time of publishing.

Gilbert joined the league in 2014, but last season he threw 38 of his 44 career passes. Rush, who has been with the Cowboys since 2017, has yet to throw a regular-season pass. Last year, DiNucci, a seventh-round selection in 2020, started a Sunday Night Football defeat to the Eagles and appeared in three games overall.

Expect few notable players to become available as backups in the coming weeks, unless there are any surprise quarterback trades around the league. Fitzpatrick, Chad Henne, and Chase Daniel, all experienced backups, are unlikely to be available.

Former starters like New Orleans Saints quarterback Trevor Siemian and Philadelphia Eagles backup Nick Mullens may become available. However, if the Cowboys want a safe and prudent insurance option to sit behind Prescott, they must contact the Bears and work out a deal before the preseason concludes.
